This Marae setting is a fantastic platform for children to extend their imagination through role play and to develop their understanding of social situations by re-living experiences. These resources even hold the potential to provide support within conversations that develop an understanding of the world around them.
A Marae is an integral and sacred part of Māori culture. We acknowledge that culture cannot be taught simply with toys and hence we provide these resources as a platform for children to extend their imagination through role play with and alongside elders.
As stated in Te Whāriki/Early Childhood curriculum, children are more likely to feel at home if they regularly see their own culture, language and world views valued in the ECE setting.
This links to the Belonging/Mana whenua strand within the curriculum.
With multiple pieces, this set allows children to create their own settings and can be a great addition to any construction or family play area.
